Environment includes all living and non-living objects. We
live in the environment and use the environment resources like air, land and water
to meet our needs. Our environment plays a big role in our lives. We won't be
able to survive life on earth without a clean and green environment. The food,
shelter, clothes, clean water and all the other basic needs we have are
products of our environment.
Today, inhabitants of earth are suffering from destructive
calamities that took already millions of lives. Some people often think that
the destruction of our environment is just a way of how nature goes. People
disregard the fact that it is actually the human activities that destroy our
environment. If we use any environmental resource such as ground water beyond
its limit of replacement, we may lose it forever. Therefore, there is a need to
create ‘awareness’ about Environmental protection. While efforts are being made
at the national and international level to protect our environment, it is also
the responsibility of every citizen to use our environmental resources with
care and protect them from degradation.
The youth must take their part on helping the environment. We need to make a difference now. Through our subject, EdSci126, we made used of the Project-based learning that was introduced to us by our Professor to learn more things about the environment by personal approach. We can't just limit ourselves in the four corners of the classrooms, hence, Project-based learning engages and motivates learners of all ages. It involves learning through experience where learners actively participate in the planning and implementation of the project activities versus the traditional model of teaching following activities in a book or by lectures.
Project-based learning encourages learners how to work effectively as part of a team, collaborate, and communicate, all while integrating technology into the project and meeting their own learning goals. The core idea of project-based learning is that real-world problems capture students' interest and provoke serious thinking as the students acquire and apply new knowledge in a problem-solving context. The teacher plays the role of facilitator, working with students to frame worthwhile questions, structuring meaningful tasks, coaching both knowledge development and social skills, and carefully assessing what students have learned from the experience. Advocates assert that project-based learning helps prepare students for the thinking and collaboration skills required in the workplace.

''Protect our earth today for our children’s tomorrow''
The environment has enough to fulfill everyone's needs but
it can never satisfy everyone's greed. That's why, We, the EdBio-1 students of
Mindanao State University-General Santos City decided to conduct a Project-based Learning on
Environmental Awareness through our Subject, EdSci-126 guided by our
Professor, Ava Claire Robles of the College of Education.
